This was a beautiful tribute Dr. Berns, there are few gifts we are given like that of a cherished teacher. Mentorship is truly invaluable, and your words perfectly describe how many of us feel about our beloved educators.

You are already reflecting Sol’s light! I always learn so much from your writings, about language, history, and humanity.

May Sol rest in peace with his union to The Divine.

One recalls the metaphor used by the ancient teacher who, at risk to his life, continued to teach his discipline. ‘More than the calf desires to suck, the cow yearns to suckle.’ Dr Cohen, ob’m, was blessed to have someone like Dr Berns to receive his knowledge. Dr Berns’ lyrical tribute makes it clear that a sacred human essence was transmitted. May the student be so blessed in those who receive his teaching.

What an apposite quotation to share, Jonathan. I'm very touched. Our sages were wise indeed, and Sol Cohen z"l was a worthy successor to them. Thank you very much for reading and commenting.

What a beautiful way to honor, Sol, Andrew -- by giving us a chance to know the influence he has had on you.

What I found interesting as I read your learnings from Sol today, is that it's quite aligned to learnings I take away from our interactions. While perhaps not a one for one comparison with your teacher, when I think about both language and experience, interactions with you are deeply impressionable.

You pay a remarkable attention to language, both in the overall cadence or arc of what you share, but also the very specific words you choose. I think about the range of languages you've dedicated significant life force to learning, as well as the range of texts / things you've read you seem to draw from when sharing thoughts and reflections.

Thank you for passing on a few strays of light to us, Andrew,. For illuminating language, insights and experiences to support us in what we investigate and contemplate. And for introducing and illuminating Sol to us, so we could know him even just a little bit.
